The Klein (German) or Moyan (French) sized Poodle is in-between the Miniature and the Standard size. European countries have four sizes of the Poodles. In Europe, as you can see below, all the sizes of Poodles have the opportunity to show off their talents in the ring. Sadly, in the US, there are often Poodles ranging in size from 15" to 20" that cannot excel in the AKC show ring because of their size. UKC has recognized the whole Poodle, regardless of size and colour and although they show against their larger Standard counterparts they do have the chance to compete equally.
The colours acceptable by the FCI (Federation Cynologique Internationale) are White, Black, Apricot, Brown and Silver. However, the DPK (Deutscher Pudel-Klub E.V.) the German Poodle Club, accepts Partis in Black and White, Phantoms in Black and Tan and Reds. In June of 2006 I spoke with Mr. Wayne Cavanaugh, President of the United Kennel Club regarding the showing of the this size Poodle. He did state to me that if there is enough interest in this size he would be willing to look at the Klein size Poodle as a separate class. Our goal is to breed this sized Poodle for show, performance and companion in Phantom, Parti and Red. For further information on the Kleins please visit our Klein Pudel page at www.partipoodles-Kleinpudel.com. The personality in this sized Poodle is more of the Standard as opposed to the smaller Poodles, often clients request a smaller Standard due to many reasons, such as living space and find this size just perfect. Very often when breeding the Partis from the US standard Poodles you will get the small size due to throwback in the genes, most of the originals have come from very old and small lines. |
